# What is Cross-Chain?

Cross-Chain refers to the technology and process of transferring or exchanging digital assets across different blockchain networks.

Because blockchains differ in ledger structure, consensus mechanisms, and communication protocols, assets cannot move freely between them without interoperability. Cross-chain technology aims to break this isolation, enabling assets, data, and applications to flow seamlessly across ecosystems — increasing liquidity and expanding use cases.
